Mosquitoes are found throughout the world and the United States. They are known vectors of diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, and encephalitis.

 

Description: Adult mosquitoes are approximately 1/8-3/8 inch long. Although they are mostly grey, some are marked with iridescent silver, green or blue scales. Mosquitoes have two wings and antennae with 15 segments.

 

Biology: Developmental time from egg to adult is approximately 12 days. Adult females live up to two months, while the male mosquito lives a mere six days in the summer. After a blood meal, the female mosquito will lay eggs in water.

 

Habits: The habits of mosquitoes vary depending on the species, but it is safe to say, mosquitoes are annoying and may be a threat to our health and well-being because of the diseases they can transmit. Any standing water in containers on your property should be emptied weekly or eliminated completely.
