Pavement Ants![]() Order: Hymenoptera
Pavement ants get their name from their preference to nest in or under cracks in asphalt or concrete pavement.
Description: The Pavement ant's size generally ranges from 1/16" to 1/8" long. Their color is usually light brown to black with colorless legs and antennae.
Biology: Development time from egg to adult is 36 to 63 days. Winged reproductives emerge in June and July, however, during the winter months, they can emerge inside at any time. Colonies can be very large.
Habits: Although Pavement Ants prefer to nest in and under pavement on the exterior, they can nest in walls, in insulation and under any type of flooring on the interior. When nesting indoors, they prefer ground-level masonry walls. |
