Sanitation Tips

Pest populations can be controlled by following a few simple guidelines in your commercial establishment.

Eliminate Standing Water on the Exterior

  • Causes for standing water include improper grading, run-off from coolers or air conditioning units, and clogged storm drains.

Wall and Ceiling Openings

  • Any gap or opening in a wall offers pest entry opportunities. Wire and pipe chase openings, as well as cracks and crevices, need to be tightly fitted or sealed to stop harborage, food build up and past travel lanes.

Restaurant Wait Staff Stations

  • Keep this area as clean as possible. Even accumulations of sugar, creamer or spilled soda are insect magnets.

Trash Areas

  • Insects and rodents are drawn to these areas because of the odor. Keep this area as clean as possible. Eliminate standing water sources as described above. Use disinfectants to remove and sanitize food debris and odors. Keep trash receptacles closed.  Dumpsters and trash compactors should be on solid surfaces such as concrete or tarvia to help reduce insect breeding.

Warehouses

  • Keep all products and materials at least 18 inches away from the wall so proper inspection and cleaning of devices can be achieved. Keep doors and windows maintained with tight fitting seals and closed at every opportunity.

The above steps will help keep your business pest free. However, even after following the best maintenance schedule, pest populations still have the ability to multiply. If you are in need of pest solutions, call DuRight at 315.437.1700 or 1.800.660.4476.
