Odorous Ants

The Odorous House Ant gets its name because when crushed, this ant gives off a terrible smell that has been likened to rotting coconuts.
Description: Odorous House Ants range in size from approximately 1/16" to 1/8" long. The body color is dark brown to black. These ants do not have a stinger.
Biology: The approximate life cycle from egg to adult is 34–83 days and depending on the temperature can last as long as 210 days. The first swarmers generally appear from May to mid-July and can produce up to five generations per year. The workers move along established trails to forage for food.
Habits: In indoor environments, Odorous House Ants prefer building their nests in wall voids, especially around hot water pipes, heaters, and sinks. These ants eat sweet or grease-based foods. In outdoor environments, Odorous House Ants nest under objects and feed on insects and honeydew.
